The South Wales Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) is seeking a Data and Insights Officer to support the Violence Prevention Unit (VPU) in delivering a data-led approach to violence prevention, early intervention, and harm reduction. This is an exciting opportunity to use data, research, and evidence-based practice to inform policy and decision-making, ensuring that interventions are targeted, effective, and aligned with the public health approach.
The post holder will be responsible for collecting, analysing, and interpreting data from sources such as policing, health, and community safety partners to identify trends, risks, and vulnerabilities. They will lead on updating the South Wales Violence Strategic Needs Assessment, ensuring a clear understanding of key issues such as knife crime, exploitation, substance use, hate crime, radicalisation, mental health, and trauma.
Working closely with Local Violence Prevention Boards, Community Safety and Criminal Justice partners they will support the development of local Strategic Needs Assessments under the Serious Violence Duty, improving multi-agency data sharing and analysis. The role also involves producing high-quality reports, briefings, and presentations to inform preventative policing and partnership approaches and reduce demand on services.
The successful candidate will have experience in data analysis, research, and performance reporting, with an understanding of violence prevention, public health principles, and evidence-based practice. They will have excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex data into clear, actionable insights for a wide range of stakeholders.
