Role & Responsibility

We are seeking an exceptional leader to join the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC) as Director of Justice. This pivotal role will drive the development and enhancement of the Criminal Justice system within South Wales, ensuring effective collaboration between all Criminal Justice partners and the delivery of the Commissioner’s legal and funding responsibilities. An exciting time to join the office following the election of new Police and Crime Commissioner Emma Wools. The role reports into the Chief Executive of the Police and Crime Commissioner.

As Director of Justice, will lead the Strategic development of Criminal Justice initiatives across South Wales, ensuring alignment with the Commissioner’s priorities within a new Police, Crime and Justice Plan for South Wales. This position offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of criminal justice services in South Wales, working across organisational boundaries to create more effective and integrated approaches to justice, rehabilitation, and victim support.

This will include the establishing and maintaining of effective working relationships with key partners including courts, youth justice, HMPPS, rehabilitation services, and victim support organisations and services.

You will oversee the Commissioner’s statutory responsibilities relating to Criminal Justice agencies and relevant partnership working in this field, developing, and implementing strategies to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the local criminal justice system.

The role includes ensuring the effective coordination of victim and witness support services, monitoring performance, and providing advice and oversight.

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate skills that include:

  • Experience in Criminal Justice system operations and partnership working
  • Strong understanding of Criminal Justice policy, legislation, and reform
  • Proven record of successful partnership development and stakeholder management
  • Excellence in strategic planning and policy development
  • Strong leadership capabilities with experience in managing multi-agency initiatives
