Today marks the start of Volunteers Week 2021 (1st – 7th June) and as the national Citizens in Policing lead for the Association of Police & Crime Commissioners (APCC), Alun Michael has taken the opportunity to thank volunteers for their contribution to our communities.
Speaking at the start of Volunteers Week, the South Wales Police & Crime Commissioner said:
“I'm a passionate believer in the importance of volunteering, not just for the benefits it brings both to society and to the individual, but because essentially, it is the essential act of citizenship, it's what makes us a good society and a good local community.
“So, in my role as the Police and Crime Commissioner for South Wales, but also as the national lead for Citizens in Policing for the Association of Police and Crime Commissioners, I really want to take the opportunity of a volunteer week, to celebrate the contribution that is made by all our volunteers, whether young people who volunteer as our police youth volunteers, the leaders who work with them, the volunteers who support the police and the very special people who act as Special Constables. The amount of work that's done by Special Constables is absolutely extraordinary and really a big issue for celebration.
“So, for every one of those, I want to say a very big thank you, thank you for the contribution you make to helping and supporting South Wales Police, thank you for what you do for local communities, in every part of South Wales, and thank you for the individuals that you help, day in and day out.
“Diolch yn fawr iawn, thank you very much indeed.”
