First of a series of 'Same Resident' events takes place in Neath

Last Updated: 28/11/2023

An event held in Neath, Port Talbot to improve partnership working between the police, fire service and the local authority has been hailed a success.

PCSOs, councillors, fire and rescue officers and community safety partners attended the first in a series of ‘Same Resident’ events which took place recently at the Princess Royal Theatre.

PCSOs and Councillors took part in workshops to identify ways to tackle common community issues such as antisocial behaviour (asb), dangerous parking and fly-tipping.

Further events, which are being organised jointly between the Police & Crime Commissioner’s team, Police and local authorities across South Wales, are planned for the next few months.

Commissioner Alun Michael, Said: “These events are an excellent opportunity for PCSOs and elected members to build relationships which is key to local problem solving.

“The police cannot tackle asb and crime alone – an effective, partnership approach will enable communities to develop long lasting solutions to persistent problems.

“The event in Neath, Port Talbot was a great success and I would like to thank all those who organised it and of course all those who attended.”

The events coincide with a milestone year for PCSOs –2023 marks 20 years since they were first introduced in South Wales.
