The Police and Crime Commissioner for South Wales, Alun Michael, is also a Trustee of the South Wales Police Youth Trust.  It’s a charity which offers grants to organisations and projects which offer young people a better way than the risk of being drawn into crime, anti-social behaviour and substance misuse. The aim is to help them to live safe, healthy and fulfilling lives.

The Youth Trust has recently reviewed its priorities for grants and published a new prospectus setting out its aim and the outcomes it seeks to achieve:

  • That young people make more positive life choices, have better relationships and improved mental and physical well-being

As a parent, grandparent and a former youth worker in Cardiff, the Commissioner is passionate about the importance of investing in young people, and has backed the Trust’s focus on targeting its resources to the communities and young people where these are most needed.

Speaking about the Youth Trust, the Commissioner said:

“The Trust has supported some excellent projects across South Wales, bringing our neighbourhood police, voluntary organisations and other partners together with young people to make positive changes in their lives and in their communities. I am proud to be a part of the Trust, which is working in a small but growing way to make a difference.   We have invested funds from the Police Property Act and are about to launch a new fund-raising drive including my own team who are planning their own fundraising efforts on behalf of the Youth Trust. ”

Supporting Information and Guidance is available on the South Wales Police website (under ‘About Us’) including case histories and how to apply for funding.
