In Your Community
Police and Crime Commissioner, Emma Wools, has this week spent time with community groups and organisations across Cardiff in her continued In Your Community engagement programme.
The Commissioner’s In Your Community days are dedicated engagement visits for the Commissioner to regularly meet with a range of diverse community groups, educational settings, local businesses and community led initiatives, linked to the objectives within the Police, Crime and Justice Plan.
This week, the Commissioner met with:
- Staff and trainees at Vision 21 — a thriving community centre providing life-changing opportunities for people with learning disabilities
- St David’s Shopping Centre, meeting the Centre Manager and Local Policing Inspector
Supporting learning disability groups, such as Vision 21 and many others across South Wales, directly relates to the ambition of Priority 3 in the Police, Crime and Justice Plan – Keep vulnerable people and communities safe from exploitation and harm.
During this meeting and previous conversations with the wider community, similar themes have been echoed – a lack of understanding from the police of those with learning disabilities and not feeling safe in their community.
Finally, we met with the Centre Manager for St Davids 2 Shopping Centre, initially discussing future investments into infrastructure, staffing, data collection and partnership approach to security. This was later supplemented by input from the Local Policing Inspector, offering further insights into the work taking place to create a safer, more welcoming city centre for everyone.
Continue to keep an eye on our social media to follow future In Your Community days and get further updates on the Commissioner’s latest activities.
