Recently, the Director of Justice visited the South Wales Victim Focus Multi-Crime service funded by the Office of the South Wales Police and Crime Commissioner. The Chief Executive of Victim Support, Katie Kempen also attended.

The South Wales Victim Focus service provides face to face and remote support to anyone effected or impacted by a crime and is underpinned by a 24/7 support line service, based in the National Contact Centre in Cardiff, which provides out of hours support to victims and witnesses living in South Wales.

Following an introductory meeting with attendees, South Wales Victim Focus Managers and staff provided a presentation on the ‘Road Victim Service’ which provides support and advocacy to anyone bereaved by fatal road traffic collisions in South Wales. Next, attendees discussed how the services priorities can align and support the South Wales Police and Crime Plan priorities.

The day concluded with attendees shadowing service staff, providing an opportunity to showcase the incredible work being done in the service.

Sian Rees, Director of Justice said:

Spending time with the South Wales Victim Focus team was deeply humbling. Their warmth, professionalism and unwavering commitment to victims, especially those bereaved by road traffic collisions left a lasting impression. It’s clear that this service isn’t just delivering support, its restoring dignity, hope and voice to those navigating unimaginable loss. I’m grateful for the opportunity to witness their work and explore how we can align our priorities to strengthen justice and care across South Wales.

Katie Kempen, Chief Executive of Victim Support said:

“It was a privilege to join the Director of Justice in visiting our South Wales Victim Focus Multi-Crime service and to see the dedication and expertise of our team in action. Discussions about our Road Victim Service were especially impactful and highlighted the importance of tailored, trauma-informed support for families bereaved by road traffic collisions. This work is a powerful example of how our services help victims navigate the most difficult moments in their lives and it aligns closely with our commitment to putting victims at the heart of everything we do. I’m grateful to the South Wales Police and Crime Commissioner’s office for their continued partnership and proud of the difference we’re making together for victims across South Wales.”
