GRADE:  PO1/PO2- £41,487.00 – £47,046.00 (Pro-rata)

BASED AT: The Police and Crime Commissioner’s Office at South Wales Police Headquarters, Bridgend

HOURS: 29.6 hours a week

TENURE: Fixed Term until 31 March 2028 / Secondment or loan opportunity (Funded through the Home Office Serious Violence Reduction Partnership Grant).

The South Wales Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) is seeking a Principal Data and Insights Officer to join the Violence Prevention and Reduction Unit (VPRU). This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to South Wales’s multi-agency, public health approach to violence prevention, early intervention and system change.

The post holder will provide high-quality, proactive coordination in relation to information, research and data collection, review and interpretation across multiple sources in relation to:

• Supporting the delivery of actions within the Police Crime and Justice Plan that relate to crime prevention and violence reduction;
• Supporting the VPRU to meet the duties of the Serious Violence Reduction Partnership Grant and Serious Violence Duty;
• Supporting the delivery of actions identified within the South Wales Violence Prevention and Reduction Strategy and;
• Supporting the evidence-based practice requirements of the South Wales Violence Prevention and Reduction Strategic Board and subgroups.

A key focus of the role will be leading on the South Wales and local Serious Violence Strategic Needs Assessments on an annual basis, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of violence and exploitation. The post holder will work closely with partner agencies to strengthen data-sharing processes, in addition to taking a research and evidence-based approach to enhance collective understanding of what works in violence prevention. Working closely with the VPRU Analyst, the postholder will identify patterns, risks and emerging threats. The postholder will take an evidence-based approach to support the VPRU and wider partners to undertake investment decisions, target support and interventions appropriately and to work collaboratively to support safer and more resilient communities.

The successful candidate will have experience in a similar role, be proficient in Microsoft applications and be able to produce high quality, comprehensive, logical and structured reports. The successful candidate will be able to present to individuals and groups, will be confident working in a fast-paced, multi-agency environment, and be able to build strong working relationships across policing, health, education, local authorities, and the third sector.

The position is based in South Wales, however remote and agile working is in place.
