PCC funded ‘Braver Choices’ programme celebrated at the Safer Communities Awards 2024!

Funded by the Commissioner’s Violence Reduction Grant, Braver Choices is a Media Academy Cymru knife crime programme for young people in South Wales on the periphery of, or already engaging with, knife crime and weapon carrying.

The Braver Choices programme aims to educate young people on the risk of weapon carrying including potential sentencing, exploitation and joint enterprise and consequential thinking. It is specifically designed for 8–18-year-olds and is 12-week intervention delivered on a 1:1 basis, in a safe and comfortable environment.

This intervention combines a number of approaches that are recognised as high impact interventions within the YEF Toolkit rather than taking one predominant approach: including focussed deterrence, pre-court diversion and social skills programmes.

Recently, having been nominated by the Commissioner’s Head of Violence Prevention Unit, the project won the category award for Serious Violence, highlighting its exceptional contribution to educating high-risk young people across South Wales.

Congratulations!
