In Your Community – Neath and Port Talbot

In Your Community

This week, Police and Crime Commissioner, Emma Wools was out in Neath and Port Talbot, holding her latest ‘In Your Community’ day, hearing what matters most to you in your community from local residents and representatives.

Visits included meeting with:

  • Neighbourhood policing teams
  • Local politicians
  • A community coffee morning
  • Forward 4 Fairyland voluntary group
  • Hillside Secure Children’s Home

Following the recent launch of the Commissioner’s Children and Young People’s Police, Crime and Justice Plan, this visit afforded the opportunity to connect with and thank residents of Hillside who featured heavily in the production of the plan. Over 5,000 children and young people across South Wales contributed to ensuring that their voices are heard and that they can feel safe, heard and respected in their communities.

The Children and Young People’s Plan is the first of its kind in South Wales, setting out six clear priorities ensuring young voices are heard in policing and community safety across South Wales. Find out more about the plan here

Speaking directly with children and young people, residents, community groups, neighbourhood policing teams and local politicians about their views and experiences of their communities is essential in shaping and supporting the delivery of priorities across both the Police, Crime and Justice Plan and the Children and Young People’s Police, Crime and Justice Plan.

In this visit, topics raised included:

  • Retail crime
  • Community safety
  • Online safety
  • Vulnerability to exploitation and/or radicalisation
  • Positive partnership working
  • Children & Young People
