Neighbourhood Policing Week – Behind every safer street is a dedicated neighbourhood policing team

Today marks the start of Neighbourhood Policing Week, a chance to recognise the vital role community policing plays across South Wales, keeping our communities safe and connected.

South Wales Police & Crime Commissioner, Emma Wools said:  “Behind every safer street is a dedicated neighbourhood policing team.

As your Police and Crime Commissioner, strengthening neighbourhood policing is a key priority for me, as set out in my Police, Crime and Justice Plan, making sure you have visible, trusted officers who understand local concerns. It’s also important in my role that I monitor South Wales Polices’ performance in order to make sure that communities can see and feel the benefits of strengthened neighbourhood policing.

And we’re making real progress:

• We’ve added 70 new neighbourhood officers and nine Special Constables, giving teams more capacity to tackle anti-social behaviour, solve problems, and engage with residents.

• We’ve improved access to your local teams through South Wales Listens, with clear priorities now set for every ward.

• And I’ve secured £1 million through my Safer Places Partnership Fund to support crime prevention and violence reduction in 32 priority areas.

But neighbourhood policing is about more than visibility, it’s about relationships. Officers working alongside communities, listening, and responding to what matters most.
