PCC funded NHS Violence Prevention Teams celebrated at the Safer Communities Awards 2024!

Funded by the Commissioner’s Violence Reduction Grant, the NHS Violence Prevention Teams are two teams of dedicated professionals who safeguard Emergency Department patients in Swansea and Cardiff, both within and outside of the Emergency Departments post discharge.

Violence Prevention Teams are made up Violence Prevention Nurses who provide support to patients of all ages who attend the Heath and Morriston Emergency Department with injuries as a result of violence, and third sector community-based youth workers who receive referrals from the nurses. The teams safeguard all patients referred in, make referrals out to all relevant agencies to identify the best type of support each patient needs.

The dedicated team also assist in the establishment of multi-agency support for Emergency Department patients to improve the quality of care, support, and guidance they receive by all professionals, creating clear referral pathways, and educate Emergency Department staff to be aware of the threats relating to knife related injuries and how to protect themselves, as well as their patients.

Recently, having been nominated by the Commissioner’s  Head of Violence Prevention Unit, the project won the category award for Safeguarding, highlighting its exceptional contribution to multi-agency support across South Wales.

Congratulations!
