On Tuesday 25th February, we welcomed over 25 young people from across South Wales to our Young Voices Conversation event at Police Headquarters.
The aim of Young Voices is to provide young people with the opportunity to share their feedback, experiences and ideas with senior leaders about matters relating to policing, crime and safety, whilst also having the opportunity to get a behind the scenes look at different policing departments.
Young people met with the Police and Crime Commissioner Emma Wools, Assistant Chief Constable Jo Maal and Kath O’Kane from the office of the Children’s Commissioner for Wales and shared their honest feedback about the issues impacting them and their peers where they live, work or study.
As part of the event, young people also got the opportunity to meet some of the Police horses, received demonstrations from officers in charge of facial recognition and roads policing and visited the South Wales Police Heritage Centre.
Police & Crime Commissioner Emma Wools said “I am sincerely grateful to all the young people who attended our Young Voices event, and for taking the time to share their honest feedback with us. Providing young people with opportunities to comment on and challenge the delivery of services that affects them, is key to helping me and South Wales Police to jointly improve on the services provided to children and young people.
I am committed to promoting a culture where young people’s opinions and contributions are recognised, valued and acted upon. Hearing directly from young people is vitally important in improving my understanding of the issues young people are facing and experiencing in their local areas and will be critical in helping me develop the priorities and child focused solutions for my Young Person’s Police, Crime and Justice Plan in the coming months”
