The South Wales Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) is seeking a Communications and Engagement Officer to join the Violence Prevention and Reduction Unit (VPRU). This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to South Wales’s multi-agency, public health approach to violence prevention, early intervention and system change.
The Violence Prevention and Reduction Communications and Engagement Officer will play a key role in supporting the Violence Prevention and Reduction Unit (VPRU) to deliver its programme of work, which aligns with the Police and Crime Commissioner’s (PCC) Police, Crime and Justice Plan (2025–2029), and the South Wales Violence Prevention and Reduction (VPR) Strategy.
The post holder will provide high-quality, proactive communications, engagement and project coordination support to the Head of the VPRU, the Senior Policy Officer and the broader VPRU with communications and engagement activities, with two of the primary responsibilities including coordination and engagement relating to the #NotTheOne (#NTO) campaign and leading on the initial scoping and development for the Community Ambassador scheme.
Key responsibilities will include the development and implementation of a #NTO engagement and communications plan and the development of additional resources and approaches alongside key partners including South Wales Police and His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service. The role will provide valuable support in driving initial plans forward for the Community Ambassador scheme, utilising feedback from communities themselves. The postholder will provide added resilience to the wider office in relation to community engagement and communications activity where they relate to Priority 2 of the PCJP and the South Wales VPR Strategy and will support an increase in public awareness of the VPRU and PCC activities/achievements. The postholder will also plan, deliver and monitor relevant and measurable campaigns which support the VPRU strategic direction.
The successful candidate will have experience in a communications and/or engagement role, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and a commitment to violence prevention, early intervention, and safer communities. They will be confident working in a fast-paced, multi-agency environment and able to build strong working relationships across policing, health, education, local authorities, and the third sector.
This is a fantastic opportunity to help turn strategy into action and make a real difference to the lives of people across South Wales.
The position is based in South Wales, however remote and agile working is in place.
