Summary
The South Wales Violence Prevention and Reduction Strategy sets out a shared regional approach to preventing and reducing serious violence. Developed jointly by partners across South Wales, it provides a clear strategic framework for working together to make our communities safer. The collaborative approach reflects the requirements of the Serious Violence Duty, recognising that preventing violence is a shared responsibility.
As the convener of partners under the Serious Violence Duty, the Police and Crime Commissioner brought organisations (‘specified authorities’) together to develop this shared vision and set of priorities that is now being utilised to drive forward localised strategies and delivery plans that respond to the needs of individual communities. The South Wales Violence Prevention and Reduction Unit continues to play a key role in supporting this work, helping to develop a shared understanding of local needs, strengthening the evidence base, convening partners through local and regional boards, and commissioning, coordinating and evaluating interventions across the region.
By working together, sharing information and coordinating resources, we can better understand the causes of violence and take action to prevent harm before it occurs. Guided by the Wales Without Violence Framework, our approach treats violence as preventable, not inevitable. It focuses on evidence-based, trauma-informed and collaborative approaches that address root causes, support those most at risk and strengthen communities.
