He oversees the strategic coordination of partnership activity to prevent serious violence, reduce harm and address the root causes of crime through a public health approach.

Daniel is responsible for the commissioning and oversight of targeted interventions that support the Commissioner’s priority of crime prevention and violence reduction, ensuring investment is evidence-informed and aligned to local need.

He leads the oversight of hotspot policing and place-based prevention activity, working closely with South Wales Police and partners to identify areas of highest harm, coordinate problem-solving approaches and support delivery of the Neighbourhood Policing Guarantee through high-quality prevention and enforcement measures.

Violence Prevention and Reduction Unit

Launched in Dec 2025, the South Wales Violence Prevention and Reduction Unit (VPRU) works collaboratively with stakeholders across Police, Health, Public Health, Local Authorities, local and central Governments and non-government organisations to achieve shared goals of:

  • – reducing crime and violence
  • – reducing numbers of children and young people entering the criminal justice system
  • – increasing trust and confidence in Policing

#NotTheOne is an early intervention campaign that aims to persuade 11 to 16-year-olds away from carrying knives.

Police forces, teachers, youth workers, parents, and other trusted adults across the UK can use #NotTheOne campaign resources to raise awareness of the dangers of knife crime and support positive youth engagement.
