Young Voices get behind the scenes at Police Headquarters

Members of the Police and Crime Commissioner’s Young Voices Conversation initiative were given VIP treatment at Police HQ recently.

They got a behind-the-scenes look at policing which included demonstrations from officers in charge of facial recognition, firearms and drones during their day-long visit.

Over 20 young people took part in the first in person regional youth forum event which also gave members the opportunity to escalate concerns from their young peers about policing with the Police & Crime Commissioner, senior leaders from the organisation and the Children’s Commissioner for Wales, Rocio Cifuentes.

Sarah Davies, Engagement Manager, said: “It was a successful event – I’d like to thank all those who helped make it happen, in particular the officers who took time out of their busy days to give demonstrations and answer questions.

“The ultimate aim of the event was to listen to young people’s views about policing, good and bad. They will be invited back to see us in February so we can share with them what we were able to do in response to what they told us.”

Young Voices Conversation is a joint initiative between the Police and Crime Commissioner’s team and South Wales Police and was launched in 2021 to target young people aged between 11 and 25 to ensure their voices are heard and they have influence. Since this initiative was launched, over 2,000 young people from across South Wales have shared their feedback with us.
