Funding Safety Together – Our Police, Our Community, Our Voice

Emma Wools, your Police and Crime Commissioner, has launched her ‘Funding Safety Together’ survey, seeking your views on police funding proposals and how policing can be supported to help create a safe, just and inclusive South Wales.

One of the Commissioner’s main duties is setting the South Wales Police budget and how much you pay towards policing through council tax. Before this decision is made, the Commissioner is inviting South Wales residents to share their thoughts on how much they are prepared to pay towards local policing, ensuring that affordability and meeting police needs are considered.

“You’ve told me you want more visible, connected, and community focused policing. To deliver on this, and other priorities in my Police, Crime and Justice Plan, carefully considered investment will be required, ensuring resources are managed appropriately.”

“Ensuring South Wales Police can deliver proactive policing that prioritises crime prevention and support for all communities across South Wales is vital in providing the policing you want and safe spaces for all.”

The Commissioner’s priorities, as laid out in her Police, Crime and Justice Plan, reflect your feedback of what you want from local policing and services in your community. To deliver on these priorities, budgeting needs to be considered, balancing rising costs, budget cuts, and inflation against affordability.

Everyone’s perspective matters! Your feedback will help shape the Commissioner’s decision in advance of setting the budget in January 2026.

Despite the UK Government’s recent announcement that the role of Police and Crime Commissioners will be abolished in 2028, our responsibilities and duties remain unchanged.

We continue to be legally required to set the police budget and the annual council tax precept, ensuring South Wales Police is properly resourced to keep our communities safe.

The decisions we make this year will directly affect the service the public receives now and, in the years ahead. It’s vitally important that we continue to plan responsibly, maintain stability, and protect frontline policing throughout this period of transition.

It will only take a few minutes to complete this quick survey and your opinion really counts.

The survey closes on Wednesday 14th January 2026
