The Police & Crime Commissioner’s vision is for South Wales to be a safe, just and an inclusive place to live, work, study or visit for everybody. This vision is focused on driving positive change by empowering and listening to all local people and communities in South Wales. Acting as the bridge between the public and the police, the Police & Crime Commissioner has a responsibility to understand people’s views and experiences in relation to policing in South Wales.

Seeing how things operate on the ground and speaking with local people enables the Commissioner to credibly reflect the views and experiences of local communities and ensure policing and criminal justice agencies are held accountable for the service they provide.

The Commissioner’s aim is to:

  • Develop knowledge and local insights: Building community connections and working together enables the Commissioner to make decisions, suggest solutions and influence policies in the best interest of our communities.
  • Remain connected: Maintaining a regular presence in communities will ensure we continue to listen and learn from residents and the organisations we work with.
  • Monitor public opinion: Periodically consulting with communities will help us understand any changes or local nuances in the things that matter most to people in relation to crime, community safety and local policing.
  • Increase understanding: Seeking opportunities to improve people’s understanding of the role and impact of the Police and Crime Commissioner and how this role can amplify the public’s voice within policing.
